Course Details

Training Length: 24 hours
Delivery: Online, self-paced
Intended Audience: Individuals preparing for unarmed private security employment in Georgia
Completion Document: Defencify-issued certificate upon successful completion of course requirements

Defencify describes this program as meeting Georgia’s required 24-hour basic security training curriculum. Georgia’s rules require basic training before employees provide security services and require instruction through Board-certified instructors. rules.sos.ga.gov

First aid content is introductory course instruction; it does not provide a separate CPR/AED or hands-on first aid certification.

After You Pass: Your Next Steps in Georgia

1. Download and save your certificate.

Keep a digital copy of your Defencify completion certificate and provide a copy to your hiring agency. Georgia requires employers to maintain employee training records, including five-year retention for training completed after January 1, 2022. rules.sos.ga.gov

2. Apply with a Georgia-licensed security agency.

For contract security employment, your next step is to obtain employment with a Georgia-licensed security agency.

Use the License Search link on the Georgia Board of Private Detective and Security Agencies website to verify the agency’s active license. Ask the employer to review your training certificate and confirm its onboarding requirements. The Board’s public search also allows verification of instructor credentials. sos.ga.gov

3. Complete the agency’s hiring and screening process.

Provide your training certificate and complete the employer’s required paperwork. Follow its instructions for:

  • Identification and employment eligibility documents
  • Background screening and any required fingerprinting
  • Employment history and references
  • Additional employer or client requirements
  • Uniforms, equipment, and orientation

Ask the agency which screening provider and process to use before purchasing a separate background check or fingerprint appointment.

4. Understand Georgia’s unarmed guard requirements.

Georgia does not require unarmed security guards to obtain individual registration with the Board. Unarmed guards must still complete the required training. Your completion certificate documents your education; it is not an individual state-issued guard license or authorization to operate a security business. sos.ga.gov

For ordinary unarmed employment, there is no Texas TOPS-style agency connection step. Complete your hiring agency’s onboarding process and obtain its confirmation before reporting for an assignment.

5. Complete orientation and learn your assignment.

Before your first shift, confirm your supervisor, start date, location, and reporting instructions. Review your post orders, emergency procedures, incident reporting expectations, and authorized equipment with the employer.

6. Complete separate requirements for armed work.

This course alone does not authorize armed security duties. Armed work requires additional firearms training, qualification, and applicable Board registration and weapon authorization. The licensed employer submits the employee registration application, and applicants must receive the required approval before working armed. sos.ga.gov
